SCHEDULE
DAY 1 SEGMENT 6 2.15 - 3.15 TRACK 1: Schema Therapy for Childhood Sexual Abuse: Gaining Confidence and Understanding with Chris Hayes |
Many adult clients who seek treatment in schema therapy have experienced childhood sexual abuse (CSA). The impact of CSA is complex and pronounced in the client’s conceptualization. In some cases, clients present with a focus on assistance in this domain. In other cases, the client has developed strong coping modes to block emotions, memories and thoughts that can be a significant driver of the presenting issues. The content and handling of CSA related issues can be anxiety-provoking for therapists and often be left unaddressed or misunderstood. This presentation aims in providing therapists better understanding of how to manage CSA related issues and better conceptualize its impact within a schema therapy context.
