Gonca Soygüt is professor at the Department of Psychology of Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey. She received her Ph.D. in the area of clinical psychology from Hacettepe University in 1994. Currently, she is the internship program coordinator of the Clinical Psychology graduate programs at Hacettepe University and teaches graduate and undergraduate level courses related to the field of clinical psychology.
Soygüt has served on the editorial board of a number of national journals in her field. Her research includes: interpersonal schemas; schema therapy; therapeutic alliance; working alliance; psychotherapy process and outcome; and attachment in psychotherapy. She was the executor of a psychotherapy process research project granted by Turkish Scientific and Academic Council: Examining the role of attachment styles and interpersonal schemas of patients and therapists for development of therapeutic alliance in a short-term cognitive psychotherapy process (2005-2008). Currently she focuses on qualitative analysis of psychotherapy processes in terms of relational variables (e.g. Therapeutic Alliance).
She has been recognised by the International Society for Schema Therapy (ISST) as certified schema therapist, trainer and supervisor since 2009. She has been certified by Turkish National Committees-European Federations of Psychologist’s Associations (EFPA) for both Europsy and Europsy-Specialization in Psychotherapy since 2013. Currently, she is the chair of Turkish-SNAC (Specialization in Psychotherapy - National Committee).
Soygüt was the president of Turkish Psychological Association (TPA) for two terms (2006-2010). She had served on several of the TPA’s work groups and committees. Recently she worked on the foundation of the Clinical Psychology Division of TPA (2013-2014). She is currently representing the association in the International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS).
