About
John has a PhD from the UK in Clinical Psychology during which time he developed and validated two new psychological instruments, and made improvements on one, for use in schema therapy research and practice. John’s most well known programs to date are his marriage and parenting programs, known as “I Choose Us!”(ICU) and “Good Enough Parenting” (GEP) respectively, which he developed while learning about schema therapy (See www.goodenoughparenting.com
John Louis is an Advanced Certified Schema Therapist/Trainer, and a member of the International Society for Schema Therapy since 2009, having been trained directly by Dr. Jeffrey Young, the founder of Schema Therapy. John is a registered counsellor, clinical member and supervisor of the Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC). He has over 30 years of experience in pastoral counselling, and about 15 years of experience in secular and professional counselling in a wide range of issues, but specifically in the area of marriage and family. He has lived in the UK for 10 years, Sydney for 2 years and Jakarta for 5 years, and Singapore, on and off, for about 30 years. John is Malaysian citizen and multiculturally competent. John has published several peer review journals on the topic of schemas and on concepts used in his parenting and marriage model. John resides primarily in Malaysia, but also in Dallas, Texas, for part of the time settling into their semi-retired life and enjoying their role as grandparents.
