CHAIR WORK: The use of chair technique in psychotherapy

Within the Schema Therapy, the chair technique is mainly applied to work with the patient’s dysfunctional Modes, so as to bypass, negotiate or stem some problematic parts. Other possible applications of the use of one or more chairs, is related to the management of unresolved losses or bereavements, traumatic situations and dysfunctional relationships or inner conflicts. Finally, in other cases the technique can be employed to learn assertive behaviours or for making decisions or working with opposite poles. The Workshop is mainly experiential and is aimed at providing practical and immediately applicable tool, allowing participants to learn the different uses of the chair work, both within the Schema Therapy, that in other approaches frameworks.
