Time & Location:

About the event:

What is it about?

Based on the book Deliberate Practice in Schema Therapy (2023), this program of eight 120-minute, live online sessions provides a supportive space to fine-tune micro, schema therapy skills.

We’ll be hanging out online for 2 hours each session. Expect a warm, collaborative, and genuinely fun environment where you will:

- have the elements of each key skill outlined

- see it demonstrated, live

- have a go at the skill in a role-play pair, choosing your preferred level of challenge

- have lots of trial and error

- reflect and receive (and later give) encouragement and supportive feedback

What’s the goal?

Ever wish your schema therapy skills would just kick in automatically, like knowing how to ride a bike? That’s what deliberate practice is for! We are moving these tools out of your textbook and into your reflexes. That way, when you’re tired or stressed, you don’t have to overthink it—leaving you with plenty of brainpower to stay present, attuned, and ready for some limited reparenting.

We’re going to level up your skills one by one, customizing the difficulty setting to match your comfort zone. Here are the 12 skills straight from the book:

1. Understanding and attunement

2. Supporting and strengthening the healthy adult mode

3. Schema education: beginning to understand current problems in schema therapy terms

4. Linking unmet needs, schema, and presenting problem.  We will provide custom handouts translated into natural, culturally accurate Cantonese.

5. Education About Maladaptive Schema Modes

6. Recognizing the Mode Shifts of the Maladaptive Coping Modes

7. Identifying the Presence of the Demanding/Punitive Inner Critic Mode

8. Identifying the Presence of the Angry and Vulnerable Child Modes

9. Limited Reparenting for the Angry and Vulnerable Child Modes

10. Limited Reparenting for the Demanding/Punitive Inner Critic Mode

11. Limited Reparenting for the Maladaptive Coping Modes: Empathic Confrontation

12. Implementing Behavioural Pattern Breaking Through Homework Assignments
