About
After my B.A. in Psychology, I worked in public administration for 10 years, completing an M.Sc. in Manpower Studies (University of Manchester). I trained as a Clinical Psychologist at University College Dublin in the early 1980s and then worked in the West of Ireland and Northern England before my final employment (1996 - 2017) in Northern Ireland. I was awarded MBA by the University of Ulster in 2000. I have always worked with adults, in both inpatient and community settings. I have managed multidisciplinary teams of psychological therapists. My approach was primarily cognitive-behavioural, but for more than 20 years I have been influenced by Schema Therapy and was very pleased to become an accredited therapist in 2016. In all my clinical work I am conscious of the effects of social disempowerment on mental health. I retired from the NHS in June 2017 but intend to develop a small private practice, focusing on problems amenable to a ST approach.
