Schema Therapy for Adolescents / Young Adults (4 x 4 TU) Live-Webinar with Zoom® - based in Cologne (IST-K)

Schema Therapy (ST) can be regarded as an enhancement and development of cognitive behavioral therapy, and integrates emotions and also developmental aspects in particular at the centre of their diagnostic and therapeutic considerations. It is also particularly suited to generating action-guiding, diagnostic and therapeutic concepts, especially in the field of adolescent and young adult therapy.

First the schema therapeutic conceptual model (schemas, modes, coping strategies), the underlying theory (central importance core needs in the context of developmental tasks), possible diagnostic means (eg, projective methods) and requirements in the therapeutic attitude (eg, concept of “limited reparenting” and “empathic  confrontation”) are outlined, on the basis of temperament and personality factors in adolescence. It is expected that participants have already basic knowledge about individual (adult) Schema Therapy and its basic concepts.

Beside the features of schema theory, the workshops offer many practical demonstrations through picture and video material or life demonstrations, and small following exercises allow the participants to transfer the content into their own practice:

  • Case Conceptualization for Adolescents / Young Adults
  • Creating a Mode Sketch
  • Conducting a Mode Interview
  • Working with mode cards (Mode walk: Feel, Talk, & Walk)
  • Imagery (Positive Schemas, Fantasy Trip to the Clever & Wise Mode)
  • Inner House (This approach integrates mode and schema work with the 3 levels of the "Inner House", an adapted technique for imagery re-scripting work. It is suitable for adolescent patients, and all those (adults) who are not able to accept the Imagery Rescripting approach.
