The case conceptualization form was introduced in March 2018 and is now mandatory for all those applying for certification.  See this introduction from two of the people involved in its development:

Interview with Jeff Young & Jeff Conway: New Case Conceptualization Form

Dear Members of the ISST Community,

The Schema Therapy Case Conceptualization Form has already proved to be a major development in Schema Therapy Training, Certification and Clinical practice.  To assist in training we have made three documents available:

  1. The Schema Therapy  Case Conceptualization Form into which all the information can be entered.  Although the form can be printed and information written in, we recommend that trainees type the information into the document on a computer.
  2. An Instruction Guide which elaborates on the type of information or analysis being asked for in each section.
  3. An Example of a Schema Therapy Case Conceptualization form that is already filled in to provide further more specific guidance on how to complete the form.
  4. The STCCRS (Schema Therapy Case Conceptualization Rating Scale), a rating scale developed for use with the Case Conceptualization Form.

We already asked trainers to ensure that these materials were featured in all schema therapy training programs from March 2018.  We initially make it mandatory to use it from September 1st 2018. However, we had a significant number of requests to postpone the beginning of the mandatory use of the Case Conceptualization form and STCCRS.  Eventually 1st May 2019 was set as the final deadline.  Any evaluations of recordings performed after that date must use the Case Conceptualization form and be rated by the evaluator with the STCCRS.

The Case conceptualization form must be submitted with the session recording for evaluation by members preparing to apply for certification. The evaluator who rates the submitted recording must also rate the Case Conceptualization Form using the STCCRS.  The Case Conceptualization Form, an Instruction Guide, a Filled in example and the STCCRS are all available for members to download at https://schematherapysociety.org/New-Case-Conceptualization-Form-PDF   The STCS (Schema Therapy Competency Scale) which has been in use since 2008 and is used by the evaluator to rate the session recording is also available there.

By now we have also made a great deal of progress in getting these materials translated into a number of languages.  We have had enquiries from trainers about translating into over 20 and already over a dozen translations are available – see https://schematherapysociety.org/Case-Conceptualization-Translations for a full list. If there is no translation available in applicants’ local language, the CCF will need to be submitted in English.  However we encourage trainers training in countries with other languages to assist us in making translations available.

Finally, I would like to express my thanks to the Case Conceptualization Committee:  Jeff Young, David Edwards, Vartouhi Ohanian, Poul Perris, Susanne Vind & Jeff Conway.  They worked tirelessly for over 2 years to develop these materials. This included conducting a Case Conceptualization Pilot Study that many of you participated in during early 2016. In addition workshops were presented at our conferences in Vienna (2016) and Amsterdam (2018).  I’d also like to thank all those who have contributed to making so many translations available.
