PERSONAL STATEMENT

Dear Colleagues,

I would like to briefly introduce myself to give you a clearer overview of my professional career and my background in Schema Therapy.

I graduated in the historic University of Padova and, afterwards, I specialized in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

For many years, I have been carrying out several cognitive studies as the person in charge of the Italian Center for Eating Disorders (CIDA – Centro Italiano Disturbi Alimentari).

Clinical practice has always been my passion; therefore, I have never stopped learning: in 2010, I became a certified Schema Therapist first, and a certified Supervisor later on.

As my dedication and enthusiasm for Schema Therapy has kept growing, I have also been appointed as President of the Italian Society of Schema Therapy (SIST – Società Italiana di Schema Therapy).

One of my most important tasks as the President of the SIST is coordinating the activities that the different Schema Therapy Centers in Italy carry out, as well as promoting new research projects. Furthermore, I am the person in charge of the Schema Therapy Center in Saronno.

Besides my clinical work, I have actively engaged in supervising the different colleagues who are about to complete their pathway towards the ISST certification.

Moreover, I work as the SIST’s spokesperson for the North of Italy and I am also Alessandro Carmelita’s business associate, as I support him in managing the Institute of Cognitive Sciences, which has a longtime experience in promoting education and learning in the psychotherapy field. More specifically, this year the ISC Institute has organized its 54th edition of the International Training in Schema Therapy and, a few years ago, it started organizing other different trainings, such as the Schema Therapy for Couples one, led by Eckhard Roediger and Travis Atkinson, and the training in ST for children and adolescents, led by Christof Loose.

Since 2014, the ISC Institute has been organizing the “Attachment and Trauma” Congress, a crucial event in Italy, which has been attended by some of the most influential experts worldwide in the field of trauma treatment, such as Daniel Siegel, Stephen Porges, Allan Schore, Pat Ogden, Kathy Steele, Bessel Van Der Kolk and Diana Fosha.

I have decided to apply to the position of Representative for Training & Certification Issues because I feel truly motivated to keep on working to spread Schema Therapy, to allow both my Italian colleagues and all the patients who need help to benefit from this therapeutic approach.

Thanks to my organizational skills and, most importantly, to my enthusiasm and my willingness to foster the dialogue between the ISST members and to promote their sense of belonging to the International Society, I think that I could really make a significant contribution to the ISST’s well-functioning.

Many thanks for your attention.

With my best regards,

Laura Beccia
