Responsibilities of the Training Coordinator of the ISST Board

The Training Coordinator must

  1. attend to the maintenance, development and modification of all ISST guidelines and protocols related to training, supervision, and the development of clinical competence in schema therapy.
  2. monitor the activities of the various Training and Certification Committees, and, if needed, propose the formation of new committees to address important tasks, and, where committees are no longer needed, dissolve them. 
  3. attend the monthly Executive Board meetings and actively participate in Executive Board functions.
  4. maintain contact with Training Directors throughout the world regarding training issues and particular needs and concerns.

In discharging these and other responsibilities, the Training Coordinator must work closely with the Certification Coordinator on all matters that have implications for the certification process

The Training Coordinator must also liaise with the ISST’s virtual office manager with respect to all matters that have implications for administrative functions.

Specific Tasks

Maintaining an active Training Committee,  appointing its members, with Executive Board (EB) approval, and holding meetings with this Committee as needed.

Reviewing the curriculum for training programs with related committees and as needed propose changes to the Executive Board for approval.

Reviewing applications for training and treatment programs and approve them following the requirements established by the EB

Working with local organizers as the EB liaison for the ISST ENLIGHT events; Chairing the selection committee, which will invite and review proposals for this training event.

Chairing the committee that reviews applications in the area of training and preconference training workshops for ISST INSPIRE events.

Conducting or overseeing the delivery of the training webinars for those preparing for certification as Supervisors and Trainers as needed. This includes maintaining, updating and further developing the powerpoint presentations and reference material for these webinars.

Working closely with the Quality Assurance Committee on the following tasks:

    • developing a plan for evaluating the quality of Schema Therapy Training Programs for all categories of certification. 
    • Evaluating the effectiveness of the current option for meeting the training requirement for certification via independent study.
    • Monitoring of the continuing education requirement for all certified Trainers and Supervisors.
    • Review the current requirement that certified Supervisors and Trainers submit evidence of 4.0 or higher ratings on a training given biannually and consider whether this is effective or sufficient.

Responding to questions from members about training and training requirements.

Overseeing the procedure for listing training events on the ISST website.

Time commitment

The time commitment for this position is high: 6-10 hours per week. This position requires good organizational skills and the ability to set limits and support the various requirements of ISST certification in a Healthy Adult manner.
